W&LLR No.1 'The Earl'
W&LLR No.1 'The Earl' is the first of the Beyer Peacock built and Swindon modified 0-6-0 tanks to operate on the railway back from 1902. The Lempor was fitted in 2002.

of 822 is very similar to 823 but is slightly modified in light of experience.

No.1's exhaust system. The small ejector can be seen to exhaust at nozzle level whereas the large ejector exhausts into the mixing chamber. Neither arrangement is ideal. For optimum performance only cylinder exhaust steam and combustion gases should use the mixing chamber and diffuser, auxiliaries should be arranged to exhaust separately. With the exception of the top plate the spark arrestor has been removed. 04 May 2008 |
