This locomotive was something of a challenge to redraught without altering the external appearance. A very poor design of chimney made things very awkward indeed. Suffice to say the locomotive was a very shy steamer before modification but is now the best on the line.
In the above photograph the new chimney liner is in use but the traditional chimney had not been re-fitted. This was done once the new draughting proved itself. The welded joint in the liner denotes the change from mixing chamber (lower section) to the diffuser.
