I stayed in Llandudno overnight having driven up the previous day. After travelling on the very nice Great Orme Tramway I made my way over to the Welsh Highland Railway. No trains were running on this day. I followed the route from Caernarfon down to Porthamdog. In Porthmadog I visited the WHR (1964) company station before making my way down to the Ffestiniog Railway's Harbour station.

There
are two SAR NG15 2-8-2 locos in store at Dinas. This is No.134. Above
is an outline of the proposed appearance the loco will have. It is intended
to oil fire 134, fit a Lempor exhaust and make some other useful modifications
to the loco. March 28 2003 |

Just south of Beddgelert the WHR route meets the never used trackbed of the Porthmadog, Beddgelert & South Snowdon Railway. This bridge has never carried a train since it was built. March 28 2003

Work
was in hand to construct a new footbridge across the River Glaslyn at
the Beddgelert end of the Aberglaslyn Pass, known at Bryn-f-felin. The
WHR trackbed can clearly be seen on the far side of the river. March 28

At Porthmadog Double Fairlie 'David Lloyd George' was in service hauling a special for Fedecrail. Having seen this depart I set off for Llandudno. I went via Blaenau Ffestiniog and the Conwy valley.
The main purpose of the trip was to attend the Fedecrail Congress on Saturday March 29 to hear the paper being presented on 'Porta Treatment'. Click here to move on to this.
