Having failed to get a ticket to travel to Snowdon with steam we adjourned to the Welsh Highland Railway. No success here either as it was a diesel only day ! So after a visit to Dinas which allowed us time to inspect NGG16 Garratt NG143 we followed the WHR route down to Porthmadog.
At Rhyd Ddu we found some trackwork was still outstanding. Here WHR (1964) Company 4 wheel Barclay diesel 'Taxi 2' was seen on a works train. July 11 2003
A brief visit was made to Dinas on the morning on July 12 to see the 10am service depart for Caernarfon. From here we head over to Llanberis for the 11am service to Snowdon.

This view of NG143's front engine unit clearly shows the Walschaerts motion. On the NGG16s it is arranged with the radius rod connecting to the combination lever (lap & lead lever) above the height of the valve stem indicating the loco has inside admission valves. July 12 2003
After our return to Llanberis we made our way back to Dinas for 14:30 departure to Waunfawr. This train enabled us to do a round trip based on Dinas.
